Angela Irick

accessadvocate-angela-irickIn March of 1996 Angela Irick became a C1 C2 quadriplegic when she was involved in a minor car accident. Many doctors believed she would never be able to speak, eat or breathe again on her own. After many years of successful rehabilitation at TIRR and HealthSouth; Angela achieved the impossible by proving the doctors wrong.

Angela believes she is very blessed to be able to share her experiences to help encourage others to see the positive in a negative situation.

After a couple years of home schooling, Angela graduated with my class of 2000 from Humble High School outside of Houston, Texas. Soon after graduation, she began to take classes online for different writing courses for two years. During that time she started working for an online fashion magazine, Skylar Magazine, where she became the Director of Communications which eventually led her being named the Vice President.

In 2009, Angela noticed the fashion industry had forgotten about the disabled community and she decided to start pursuing a career in fashion by starting her own fashion line. Angela’s goal was to create a line that met the needs of women with disabilities while remaining fashionable. By 2010, her hard work paid off when her fashion line, Heels with Wheels, launched its website and continues to grow.

Angela has made it a priority to advocate through her work to show women how beautiful their inner strength is no matter what their disability may be. She has also reached another goal by having her second of three children’s books published, “Sampson to the Rescue” and “Ashley Wins the First Day of School”. Angela’s children’s books are geared towards children with disabilities being mainstreamed in today’s society.

Angela has high expectations for herself this year and competing in the Ms. Wheelchair Texas Gala has just been added to the list!
